Updated 4/15/24 at 1:32pm: Recording now available to watch on-demand!

We hope to see you on the next Community Conversations call on Monday, 4/15/24 at 11am PT for another exciting panel discussion focused on Natives in VetMed: A Guided Facilitation of their Journey, Moments of Enlightenment, and Vision for the Future.

We hear and maybe even say that representation matters--but what actions are we taking to empower representation? Let's look at what progress "commiserating" can generate. We will speak with Natives in VetMed members about their journey and why their experience matters in the veterinary and animal welfare space. They will discuss challenges and shining lights in their journey and why they continue to fight for a place in the animal field despite abundant barriers. By understanding their "why" it matters can help each of us make conscientious choices in our own areas.

    Facilitated by Dr. @Raye Taylor

    Guest Speakers/Panelists:

    • Summer Lara, Board Vice-President of Natives in VetMed
    • Kayla Plucinski, Board Member of Natives in VetMed
    • Jerilene Salabiye, Board Secretary of Natives in VetMed
    • Lecia Mata, Board President of Natives in VetMed

    About Natives in VetMed:

Natives in VetMed began as a small group of like-minded individuals in the veterinary medicine field. With the help of a trusted mentor, these individuals were connected and formed an instant camaraderie, and began to volunteer at different clinics based on serving Indigenous communities. As time passed on, and word spread of a group that supported Indigenous people within the veterinary field, the dream of forming a networking organization became reality. In April of 2022, Natives in VetMed officially began recruiting and brainstorming ideas for future events, and ways to build a community.
