No matter what stage you're at, attendees will leave with inspiring initiatives that can be implemented at home.

    Agenda
    • Welcome from Hosts
    • Question of the Day: Community Partnerships – what is a time you were offered support – large or small?
      • "My shelter was recently supported by a few rescues and vendors during our no charge adoption event. shelter staff really appreciated the extra help" - Shelley Joaquin
      • "I fostered a dog and the foster coordinator gave me a whole laundry basket of supplies and toys 💛" - Sheila Segurson
      • "My husband offered to do a task that I was dreading." - Alexis Telfair
      • "A friend offered respite help while my dog was in hospice. I went for a hike with my healthy dogs during that time." - Michelle Nichols
      • "an employee made a contribution to our organization in my honor" - Nancy McKenney
      • "We had a foster sponsor two adoptions. The next adoption was for a veteran. We had so many tears of happiness shed for this adoption." - Becky Costner
      • "I'm always amazed that when I help people get their cats S/N, or send them food, I get blessed. Under normal circumstances, I might not get to heaven, but with all these blessings, I might just have a chance. They are so grateful for help." - Betsy Ballenger
      • "We had a difficult run with a few litters of neonates and had a foster who treated the foster and animal care teams to some gourmet cookies to cheer them up." - Lydia Krupinski

    Resources

    Highlights from the Chat:
    • "16 minutes into this call and I've already learned so much. <3" - Victoria Partridge - Street Cats Club
    • "Love Dr. Lauren Park with Vets in Vans! (Worked with both Donell and Dr. Park when the three of us were at the San Francisco SPCA. Miss working with both of them! <3)" - Stacy Beckley
    • "Access to care and community outreach are intertwined for sure!" - Lisa Pearce
    • "Community partnership is having a network of resources to have an action plan rather than a reaction plan" "In Knoxville we partnered with the boy scouts. They built dog houses for families who were facing losing their pets because they didn't have shelter." - Candice Hinkle
    • "I love that - 'listening will always take us in the right direction'" - Alexis Pagoulatos
    • "That's the biggest thing - listening. Really hearing what the needs are and what it is that is helpful, rather than what WE think they need" - Laura Jean Skiles
    • "Our newest version of our clinics are "popup" clinics that we bring to the unhoused. We work with a local organization that visits the encampments daily. They are able to direct us to who has pets and introduce us so they can trust we are there to help. The clinic is exclusively for the unhoused, not advertised, just brought in when the humane service organizations has identified those in need." - Darlene Blackman
    • "that is a great thought! I am going to write that on my think board, 'We're all a work in progress'" -Jessica Hendrickson
    • "Maximizing technology is key to being efficient!!!" - Vincent Medley
    • "our vet office in town is wonderful to us but had no programs to help with emergency vet care. They just launched a program in honor of my mother, who always paid extra money and asked that it go to help other pets get the care they need! I cried when I was told." - Kate Williams
    • "Partnering with the community means finding the most cost-effective and beneficial ways to help the animals." - April King
    • "I know our city shelter has started Return-to-Home. Specifically with community cats. All the rescues in our area are trying to normalize that community cats are home where they are. For semi-feral or feral cats that can't be returned we have a couple barn cat programs in our area. Our own group has a barn cat program, TNR loan program and good Samaritan foster programs to get normal people involved and of course we do TNR and community vaccination and chipping clinics for free. " - Jasmine Padilla
    • "We are fortunate to have 2 vets on staff and some extra time. We have partnered with another organization that focuses on helping with vet care for those that need dentals, mass removals, spay neuter, etc. We provide the care every week and they do the scheduling, contact, etc which is really helpful to us. We didn't have to add to staff to deal with the admin side and it's very effective" - Karin Baker
    • "Thank you for a great panel - I love these types of programs and it really gives me hope for shelter futures :)" - Jenna Riedi

I really enjoy this week's forum. As a rescue organization that is Non sheltering we have been working with the same platform of doing preventive services for the community. The challenge is always the funding. Because the need is greater than the dollars coming in period but I am so inspired by what I heard today that it keeps us going to find those resources to keep pets and people together . Thank you
