Kitten season is almost upon us -- let's help each other be successful!

This month, we are holding a resource drive to help you get ahead of the kitten curve. Together we can build a repository of all things cat and kitten-related in the Maddie's Pet Forum Resource Library

Because each organization's needs may be a little different, we're asking you to engage with this thread in two ways:

    1.  UPLOAD/SHARE YOUR FAVORITE KITTEN SEASON RESOURCES

Is there a kitten-related video you use that gets tons of attention this time of year or a plea for fosters that works every time? Reply to this thread and attach any files, documents, infographics, handouts, videos, educational/learning opportunities or anything related to kitten season that your organization uses.

    Pro-Tips for sharing resources:

    • Use the "Upload File" button when replying to this thread to attach a file. We encourage you to attach the file versus hyperlinking to the file whenever possible. Files that are attached to discussion threads are automatically added to the Maddie's Pet Forum Resource Library so attaching helps make the resource searchable and improves accessibility within the forum.
    • Yes, you can share resources that your organization did not create. Sharing is caring and this applies to resources too! Make sure the creator allows the resource to be shared publicly and be sure to give credit to the creator or source organization.

    2.  TELL US WHAT RESOURCES YOU NEED TO HELP YOU DURING KITTEN SEASON

Do you need more videos that teach fosters how to care for orphaned kittens? Or maybe you need a flyer to give to community members when they ask what to do with the litter of kittens they just found under their porch? Reply to this thread with the resources that would help you better serve your community. Be as specific as you can!

    🤑 Feeling lucky? 🤑

Everyone who uploads a file or shares a resource on this thread during the month of February will be entered to win a $50 gift card to Amazon, Petco or PetSmart (winner's choice).  Start sharing now!

    Hello Y'All!
Don't forget that someone bringing you a litter of kittens cares about their well-being! If it's not appropriate to put them back where they were found (especially those neonates who need their mom) give those peeps supplies and instructions to foster. They are your never-ending supply of fosters. Most people want to help they just don't know what to do or maybe don't think they have the means to help. That's where you come in with your superhero cape to save the day and prevent those vulnerable babies from coming into the shelter!

The questions I usually get from kitten fosters are along the "is this normal..." spectrum, especially when it comes to weaning kittens. I added a few pages to the foster handbook for kittens (adapted from other sources) to serve as a quick reference for the stages of development and weaning for fosters. Hope someone can use it!

I also refer fosters to this page for weaning questions: Kitten Lady - Weaning

Thanks to everyone who has shared kitten resources so far! We've started compiling all of the resources shared into this folder in our resource library for you to easily access: https://maddies.fund/kittenseasonresources

I've also attached a resource from Best Friends that they shared this week: Kitten Medical Playbook.

Here are a couple of links to other great resources from Alley Cat Allies and The National Cat Coalition that are definitely worth a bookmark:

On last week's Behavior Job-Alike meeting, I learned about the awesome cat behavior resources and handouts that Marin Humane has created. They have a variety of handouts that you can use to give to cat and kitten adopters and they've even taken some of their popular resources and translated them into Spanish. I've created a library entry here that has all of the Spanish handouts: https://maddies.fund/3swgkxa

I'm also attaching a copy of Marin Humane's New Kitten Handbook.

If you have any other kitten related resources, today is the last day to comment them on this thread to be entered to win a $50 gift card. We will pick a random winner later this week and kick off the next resource drive for March.

    Thanks!

This is great! Do you also have the handouts they reference in the Kitten Handbook?
    Specifically:
    "Shy Kittens"
    "Successful Cat to Cat Introductions"
"Cats & Dogs - Living Happily Ever After"
"Two Kittens Are Better Than One!"
    "Raising Well Behaved Kittens"
    "Early Morning Feline Antics"
    "Environmental Enrichment"

    Thanks!

    Hi Sarah,

Yes! I've attached the handouts you mentioned. My personal fave is the "Early Morning Antics" one because every cat parent knows all about that.😸

Thanks to everyone who contributed resources for our first ever resource drive for kitten season!

The random winner of the $50 gift card is @Caryn Fugatt! I will be in touch to get the gift card of your choice delivered to you!

Kitten season is far from over so although the drawing for a gift card is over, we still hope you will continue to use this thread to share kitten resources that you come across or let us know what resources you still need. You can easily find all of the resources shared on this thread in the Kitten Season Resources Library folder.

For the month of March, we're turning our focus to adoption related resources. You can check out this thread and share your adoption resources to enter next month's drawing - https://maddies.fund/adoptionresourcedrive
